Elephants form friendships and communicate with each other using a deep growl-like sound and higher pitched noises

Elephants need to form a relationship before mating begins and will go through a brief courtship where the male and female will caress each other with their trunks

Pregnancy lasts for 22 months and babies are suckled for up to 3 years

Elephants become sexually active at 15 years old

Separation before the age of 3 years can be detrimental to the physical and emotional health of the elephant

A newborn baby weighs 90 -120kg
